Opt for green toiletries

When we say ‘opt for green toiletries’ we don’t mean this in the literal sense of the colour green! We mean that you should try to pick out toiletries that will not harm the planet. Solutions such as sun cream can be filled with chemicals, which when diluted whilst you swim in the sea, can be very harmful to wildlife. It is important to think carefully about what you are putting on your skin anyway, from those heavily scented shampoos to your moisturiser. There are many brands available that offer organic, eco-friendly sun-cream, shampoo and moisturiser alternatives that will not cause harm to you or the environment, so it is worth seeking them out for your next adventure (or just for the summer!)

Choose your transport carefully

When picking a holiday destination, you might want to think a little more about where it is you chose to visit. Lengthy flights are uncomfortable anyway, and are harmful to the environment to say the least. We’re not saying that you should never take a flight, just take a look at the alternatives too so that you can make an informed decision. You might find that a staycation to an exciting abode in the UK can be equally as thrilling as heading away to an exotic destination, plus less travel time means there is more time for you to enjoy your holiday!

Once you arrive at your destination, you could consider hiring bikes, trikes, boats or a tandem for a day for something extra special! Alternatively, why not hop on the local transport rather than taking the car? Living like a local will give you a more authentic experience and it will likely save you a penny or two. Walking where possible is another option, and is good for both the environment and you! Take your time to enjoy the sights around you and you will certainly reap the benefits.

items to pack for a glamping holiday

Pack smart

When packing, try not to go overboard and pack everything bar the kitchen sink! Try to put together versatile outfits that can be mixed and matched together so that you won’t have a whole mountain of washing from all the family when you return. The best plan of action is to pack light clothes that can be layered; this means that if you are too hot or too cold you can add or remove layers when necessary. This will also save you lugging round huge suitcases and make your journey all the more enjoyable! Packing light might also mean that you can take the bus or train rather than driving as your load is much more manageable. Packing smart certainly opens up the opportunities to you on holiday!

Leave nothing but footprints

Although some may think that the phrase ‘leave nothing but footprints’ is somewhat of a cliché, it is certainly something that you should bear in mind on your holidays. Try to recycle where you can, bring along an eco-friendly water bottle rather than buying a new one everyday and ensure that you leave no litter! You can make amazing memories that will last a lifetime without impacting the Earth in a negative way, so take a few steps to plan your eco-friendly holiday to perfection and enjoy the wonderful world we live in!
