March 5th is officially World Book Day! But for those who don’t know what this annual event is, we’re here to tell you all about it.
WBD is a dedicated day for everyone to celebrate all the authors, illustrators, and books out there, and arguably the most important thing of all, it’s here to help celebrate the joy of reading. This yearly date is the biggest celebration of its kind, so much so that it has been designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, recognised and enjoyed in over 100 countries across the world.
2015 will see the 18th year of World Book Day, and on 5th March 2015 there will be children of all ages coming together as one to appreciate reading.
The main aim of World Book Day here in the UK, and in Ireland, is to inspire children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by offering them the opportunity to have a book of their own.
The organisers of WBD have sent schools (including those nurseries and secondary schools that have specially registered to participate), packs of Book Tokens and age-ranged World Book Day Resource Packs (age-ranged into Nursery/Pre-School, Primary and Secondary) full of ideas and activities.
Essentially it’s all about getting kids closer to the books and authors they already love, and letting them discover more books and authors they’ll love every bit as much in the future.
However, there’s nothing stopping the grown up’s getting involved in World Book Day, and what better time to celebrate that while unwinding at one of our luxury camping North Wales abodes?
