£10 million bid for state-of-the-art LED street lights Devon energy efficiency lighting LED Devon glamping

The council in Devon have submitted a £44 million bid to the Government for a range of improvements on Devon’s roads, which would include £10.2 million being set aside for state-of-the-art LED street lights.

The council are looking to replace 25,000 street lights on a number of main roads throughout Devon with more energy efficient LED lighting.

The introduction of this new LED lighting would significantly reduce energy costs by more than £1 million a year, not to mention the reduction of carbon usage by as much as 60%.

If the improvements were granted, it would inevitably encourage a more economical way of thinking across the county, and would also have a positive impact on Devon as a whole.

The successful bids will be announced at the end of this month (March), with funding being distributed between 2015 and 2018.
