With its vast collection of sensational landscapes, beautiful seascapes and beaches, World Heritage Sites, and of course the friendly local pubs, is it any wonder that Devon has been voted as the best place in the country to live, according to a survey by Country Life Magazine?
Those who live in, and visit, the county will certainly be aware of its delights, however, for those who haven’t yet had the chance to experience the treats that await, the study perfectly highlights the main factors you can expect to experience in Devon. Those include a better quality of life than any other location in England, which is why glamping Devon locations are so popular!
The study used a 19-point category list to help them rate each county, and then judged them on each category, which factored in environment, health and heritage.
Additionally, the quality of local pubs was also studied (very important) as well as environmental credentials (even more important!). Devon was successful in coming out on top in five categories; local food, landscape, heritage, pubs and green credentials, and it’s also worth adding that Devon was recorded as having the best recycling rate in the country.
The data was compiled via Government departments, countryside organisations, the Met Office and the Good Pub Guide. Originally, Country Life carried out the same survey, in 2003, and Devon was triumphant back then too!
Speaking of the results, Country Life’s magazine editor Mark Hedges said: “Few counties can match the variety that Devon manages to pack inside its borders. Devon has always had a special place in many people’s hearts as a favourite place for family holidays, to escape city life, and to retire. Our survey shows that Devon really does deliver the dream.”
