So many people choose yurt holidays UK in order to sample the quality and essence of what it is like to enjoy a life ‘off the grid.’ There is a family, who in 2008, took their love of living a unique life in a home that many could only dream of into a permanent residence. Located near the centre of Festus, Missouri, United States, the Sleeper family were granted the occupancy following checks from city officials to live full time in their spectacular cave home.
The location of the cave is where the Sleepers live, work, raise their family and celebrate life away from the hustle and bustle of city life! The cave is regionally famous with its impressive 15,000 square feet of space that has been divided into three main chambers.
The front chamber is where the family do the majority of their living and this is where the 3-bedrooms of the home are.
Next is the middle which is where the laundry room, storage, and a spare bath is located.
The back chamber has the stage where famous musicians such as Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Ike and Tina Turner, and many other bands have performed.
You’ll find 2.8 picturesque, partially wooded acres outside their home which provides tremendous privacy and offers a feel of the country right rather surprisingly right in the middle of town. The cave is just several streets away from amenities such as shopping, dining, and other conveniences they might want or need.
The cave is energy efficient too. Geothermal and passive solar keep the home comfortable all year-round without having to maintain a furnace or pay the high costs that come with air conditioning. In spite of the immense size of the home, energy costs here run about the same as in the 800 square-foot starter home the Sleepers moved from originally. As you would expect the home naturally stays a little bit cooler than your average above-ground home, but the Sleepers found that they acclimated pretty quickly with hardly any trouble.
Although we don’t have cave homes like this on offer, we do offer some amazing glamping holidays. Take a look around and see which place inspires you at: www.qualityunearthed.co.uk/
