The staycation was a growing trend in 2015, with 4.5 million (7%) more people choosing the staycation as their preferred holiday choice. The study goes on to cite that the average staycationer is estimated to spend £686 on their vacation, which is also a gain on last year, 55% in fact, up from £442.

For many people, cost still remains to be a factor that looms large when it comes to getting away, so much so that 18% of the survey population confirmed that just can’t afford to head abroad in 2016. Additionally, 16% said that they’d prefer to staycation as they consider it to be better value for money as opposed to jetting overseas. However, the main driver for staycationers was a rather pleasing one. 32% said they had an interest in exploring the things that the UK has to offer as their main reason for selecting a staycation!

25% of respondents said they have plans to escape to the countryside for a break this year, an increase of 5% on 2015, whilstbeach holidays were closely following the popularity of the countryside with 19% of Brits saying this was their desired choice.
