In more interesting and encouraging news for the state of the UK’s solar power, it has been announced that it is set to surpass the 9GW solar capacity barrier this week, with the significant increase in ROO-FIT eligible installations, bestowing a large part of the reason for this.

The news comes after a substantial distribution of utility-scale solar in the first quarter of 2015 under the Renewables Obligation programme. The results of this initiative resulted in more than 2.5GW being installed from January to March alone!

Successive quarters can also boast 253MW and 317MW connected respectively, which has seen the UK’s solar capacity reach just below the 9GW barrier at the end of September. And with Solar Intelligence’s real-time data on the case, it has been reported that capacity will indeed exceed the substantial 9GW sometime this week.

The figures come less than a week after the Department of Energy and Climate Change claimed current capacity stands at around 8.2GW, with just 73MW of solar installed under ROO-FITs in 2015 to date.

While we may not be offering a chunky 9GW of solar capacity, there are a whole host of our luxury camping UK abodes available through Quality Unearthed that offer solar powered facilities to be in-keeping with the environmental and sustainable ethos it practices.

This week is set to see the UK exceed the 9GW solar capacity barrier
