Legendary Glamping Wales has launched a new competition that will see a series of portable cabins situated in scenic locations across Wales, and anyone can enter!
This is essentially a chance for those with backgrounds in architecture, art or design, or people who consider their skills up to the task to get involved in the anonymous contest, which is seeking to discover innovative proposals for mobile hotels that would be suitable for overnight glamping Wales experiences in the south, mid and north of the country.
The brief explains: “Applicants are expected to design a high quality, “self-contained” glamping accommodation unit and the awarded designs will be developed to form a completely unique mobile hotel.”
More information in the brief explains: “The “pop-up” hotel will appear in three different, unique and stunning locations in Wales, including a private beach and historic sites of significance.”
The initiative has gained the backing of the Welsh government, with the project coinciding with Visit Wales’ 2017 Year of Legends cultural programme, which has been set out to boost tourism.
If you know of, or are interested in taking on the challenge, then you need to know that cabin proposals should take into account that Welsh materials need to be harnessed and need to be suitable for a 2.7m wide, 5.7m long and 3.4-metre-high chassis. Designs are permitted to feature additional balconies and awnings outside set parameters of the design brief.
Additionally, a compost toilet, king-sized bed and mattress, shower, basin, seating area and wood burning stove are also required to be included.
There are going to be three winning teams, who will be unveiled in November. The successful entrants will be granted £1,500 each and see two versions of their design produced as prototypes.
Applications are allowed to be entered in English or Welsh, and must be submitted by 31st October at 9am.
