From the natural wonders of the stunning New Forest to the gorgeous coastal views at Portsmouth or Southampton, Hampshire offers a superb selection of outdoor locations where several fantastic activities can be enjoyed. If you’re glamping in Hampshire this summer, we’ve got some great suggestions when it comes to adventurous pursuits that whole family are sure to love!

Cycling

With over 100 miles of biking trails, the New Forest is the perfect place for a bike ride in the sunshine. Explore this diverse landscape on two wheels and travel through pretty heaths, dense woodland and quaint little villages, each one as stunning as the next. If you’d like to make a day of your cycling adventure, why not take a picnic along and stop en route to take in the wonderful scenery? Whether you are a family of professionals or first-time bikers, cyclists of all abilities will find a trail to suit them in this picturesque location. Additionally, if you don’t have your own bikes, there are plenty of places where you can hire bikes, meaning you can ride for a few hours, a day or even longer!

Hang Gliding/Paragliding

For visitors who are members of the British Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association, Hampshire is the ideal place to take to the skies. Experience the ultimate adrenaline rush as you gracefully glide over beautiful countryside and exquisite coast, diving and swooping with the wind. The Sky Surfing Club, which is located near Petersfield, offers both coaching and equipment for association members; however, it is requested that visitors contact staff first to ensure the site they are attending is open.

Isle of Wight

If you’re seeking a little adventure, a trip to the Isle of Wight will make for a great day out for all the family. Head down to either Portsmouth or Southampton to catch a ferry across to this charming island, where you can explore to your heart’s content. Take a relaxing stroll along one of the beautiful beaches, browse the many shops and boutiques or relish a historical journey through time with a visit to Carisbrooke Castle, a medieval fortress where Charles I was once imprisoned by the notorious Oliver Cromwell and his ‘Roundhead’ supporters!

Quad Biking

For those in search of a fast and furious pursuit, quad biking is the ultimate activity that will lead you off road into the heart of the Hampshire countryside. Follow winding mud tracks, bounce across tough terrain and feel the wind in your hair as your zoom across grassy fields with your family close behind! There are several quad biking centres across Hampshire and its surrounding areas, meaning no matter where you’re based, you’ll never be far from a quad centre. At each of these venues, there is a superb selection of tracks meaning that both entry-level and experienced riders will all be catered for.

Skiing

Take to the slopes at the outdoor Alpine Snowsports Centre to try your hand at skiing, snowboarding or even donutting! With three large slopes to choose from, the tallest of which stands at 110 metres, there’s ample opportunity for adrenaline junkies to reach some serious speeds. If you’re a family of regular skiers or snowboarders, sliding down the slopes will be a breeze; however, for those who are new to these activities, ski and snowboard lessons are available to help you get your grip.
