Bill's is a peaceful, secluded shepherds hut for two in an idyllic lakeside setting providing the ideal backdrop for a restorative break in nature. With plenty of luxurious touches and wonderful views, you may not want to leave. As you ease yourself out of the double bed and open up the top half of the stable door, you'll get a distinct 'good life' feel during your stay at Bill's.

Inside is all cosy and warm, with windows that open up onto the lake a few steps away. Outside the lake and fields stretch away from your door. During your stay you’re likely to meet some free range hens and maybe a curious pet sheep with a smile.

The owners farmhouse is 100m away, where you will park and follow the pretty path through the orchard to get to your little bolthole. Upon arrival there will be a lovely small hamper of local goodies, which will vary dependent on season and may contain eggs if the chickens are laying well! The outdoor firepit is perfect for cooking up breakfast, which can be eaten overlooking the lake.

Set in the rolling hills of an organic dairy farm, you can enjoy a cup of tea whilst watching the cows come in for milking, or a glass of wine while watching the baby moorhens, or if you're feeling a bit more active head over the stile and along the footpath into Sherborne or Milborne Port where you will find local pubs and restaurants.

You may spot a barn owl flying close by at dusk or the dabchicks and swans that sometimes call the lake their home. Grassy well-tended footpaths run alongside the small lake, which is surrounded by fields with the occasional herd of cattle. Wildlife lovers will be in their element, peering through the provided binoculars at songbirds and deer.

The wooden floors, sheepskin rugs and lovely artworks make this a colourful surprise on arrival.

The washroom and loo is shared with just one other shepherd’s hut on the site. The washing up facilities are high quality as is the walk-in shower. If you're looking to cook up a storm, you'll want to make use of the fire pit, with logs, kindling and newspaper provided. If you don't feel like cooking, why not pop up to the village to the award-winning fish and chip shop or the renowned Clock Spire Restaurant if it’s a special occasion.

Wood and kindling are provided and help yourself to more from the store by the washroom. You will need to bring a torch, and wellies if wet weather - it can get muddy on the farm!

The hamlet of Goathill comprises only eight houses and a tiny church which you can see from the hut.

There are two pubs 1 mile away up in Milborne Port. There's also an award-winning fish and chip shop and really fantastic luxury restaurant in Milborne Port. The local pizza man, Bakerman Dan, cooks and sells amazing pizzas from a farm gate just a few miles away (check his Facebook page for the days he's cooking!)

Sherborne hailed as the prettiest town in Dorset, is lovely for coffee and shopping and has a market on Thursday and Saturday. Down its tiny lanes, you’ll find plenty of galleries, independent shops, cafes and restaurants. It’s only an hour and a half walk away across the fields, or a ten-minute drive!

A little further away - about 25 minutes drive, you will find Hauser and Wirth Somerset, a pioneering gallery, alongside fantastic gardens and the Roth Bar and Grill, which does some great food. Sculpture by the lakes (described as one of the most beautiful sculpture parks in the UK) is also well worth a visit.

On a wet day, you might find yourself exploring the rooms of Stourhead or Montacute National Trust Properties Thoughtfully included in the hut are maps for a few favourite local walks, included two directly from the farm gate.

All of these make the most of the Dorset countryside, so should make for some good views and wildlife spotting opportunities! Gold Hill in Shaftesbury (of Hovis advert fame!), or the Somerset town of Glastonbury with its alternative culture are also well worth a visit if you have a chance!
