Riverside Lodge

The wandering Wye not only forms part of the border between England and Wales, but its banks are also home to Riverside Lodge, a luxury wooden lodge for a family of four, complete with a spacious outdoor cooking and dining area and bubbling hot tub nearby.  This outstanding property sits in its own private riverside location, making you feel like you're the only people in the world, despite only being 8 miles from the historic, lively city of Hereford.
The only things you'll hear from the seclusion of your timber dwelling is the sound of birds overhead, the sizzle of dinner cooking in the pizza oven, the splash of trout rushing up the river, the giggles of the children playing in the trees, the whir of a fishing rod along the banks beyond, and the popping bubbles in your glass.
With so much to delight in outside, you'll almost forget to come inside…the cabin is, however, gorgeous on the inside too, with log burning stoves, Belfast sinks, beautiful slate floors and even a roll top bath.  You'll have plenty to fall asleep smiling about in your comfortable bed on a visit to this stunning riverside log cabin in Herefordshire.

Interiors and Facilities

This beautiful cabin consists of a double bedroom with its own double doors onto the decking and views over the river Wye.  The twin room is to the rear of the property with two sturdy single beds.  Both bedrooms are timber clad with gorgeous slate floors. Beyond the bedrooms is the stunning bathroom, complete with toilet, washbasin, but the star of this show is the ruby red roll top bath, which you can relax in after a day on the river, enjoying the heat from the hot water and from the log burner in the room.
The open plan living space contains a full galley kitchen, with oven and gas hobs, Belfast sink and fridge with small freezer compartment, as well as cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils.  A small dining table and chairs is available within this space.  On the other side of this large room is a comfortable sofa which also opens out into a bed, next to another gorgeous wood-burning stove.  There may be no TV here, but you don't need one - the view from the seating area is out onto the deck and over the river beyond.  Open the glazed doors out onto a spacious decking, with dining table and chairs and lounging chairs, perfect for nights gazing at stars and telling stories over a few glasses of wine.  Not only this, but the outdoor kitchen area, gas barbecue and large pizza oven encourage you and your family to make the most of al fresco dining - what a great excuse to pop some mackerel on the fire and make the most of outdoor living.  You can even shower outdoors, in the small, enclosed outside bathroom area.  And as if this wasn't enough, a small path leads up the bank to the private hot tub, nestled into the side of an old oak, giving the perfect views of the river, stretching a mile up towards the hills of Herefordshire.

Situation and Location

This stretch of the river Wye meanders past the Neolithic Arthur's Stone, a chambered tomb dating from 3,700 BC, and through the beautiful rural village of Monnington on Wye, on its way passed Riverside Lodge towards Hereford.  The Lodge is located almost exactly between Hay-on-Wye, the site of the world-famous festival of literature and arts, and the ancient cathedral city of Hereford. A few miles from Riverside Lodge, in the village of Eardisley, is the CAMRA award-winning Orgasmic Cider Company, based in hundreds of acres of orchard land, producing local ciders from fruit such as Brown Snout, Foxwhelp and White Jersey, as well as the very popular Parton Perry from the pear trees on site.
Why not take a bottle back to the lodge, to drink with your freshly caught fish for supper?  The owner, Katherine, allows for exclusive fishing rights at an extra cost, dependent on the season.  And if fish really isn't your thing, she'll leave you a homemade cake to welcome you to this stunning cabin.  Perfect!

This is the most expensive weekend away we've had and our first clamping experience, normally we book cottages. Following the weekend away we were split on whether we would want to spend the same amount again. We were blown away by the location, it is really lovely!
