The yurts are set in a private woodland garden which is completely private and adjacent to the fairy tale inspired Gingerbread Cottage. The cottage is listed as a building of historical importance and was once part of the Quebec Castle Estate, which went on to become Quebec Hall. Gingerbread Cottage previously had its own charity calendar, which was signed in 2012 by Ed Sheeran. He then went on to call his record label Gingerbread Man.
The site is ideal for groups of friends who wish to book the entire site but also perfectly suited to private couples or smaller families.
Guests can arrange a pick-up service from Norwich Train Station or Airport and a booking service for local attractions in advance. A small fee is charged for each.
Sycamore and Larch benefit from their own private outside space with gorgeous uninterrupted views into the historical Quebec wood. This is the perfect place to look out for local wildlife, such as the Fallow, Roe and Muntjac deer, various species of frogs, not to mention the rare Great Crested Newt which is native to Dereham.
Set in a wildlife conservation area the site is a hotspot for a variety of wild birds including many species of owls, which can be glimpsed gliding through the air at dusk, and often heard hooting in the woods. The resident Buzzards soar above the meadow daily, their occasional whistling cry permeating the air as they hunt.
Expect to see (and hear!) plenty of other woodland and garden birds including many different types of Tits and Finches, Goldcrests - the UK's smallest bird - Wrens, Robins, Blackbirds, Pheasants, Cuckoos and on occasion an elusive Blackcap, Woodpecker or Treecreeper.
Joining the owls after dark are many rare species of bat whose numbers are recorded every year for the Bat Society. Relax and lay under the stars as they come out to hunt; a truly wonderful sight.
Walkers can explore a plethora of public footpaths - some directly from the site itself - and experience a variety of beautiful woodland and stunning countryside surroundings. Walk up the lane with the woods on one side and glorious views for miles on the other. The Wensum Way is a fifteen-minute walk through fields of pigs with their piglets, plus sugar beet and plum orchards. The colours of the trees and hedgerows change with the seasons making every stay unique.
For cyclists there are many different routes in the vicinity varying in difficulty. One of the longer routes from St Nicholas Church, through Dereham all the way to Thetford Forest makes a delightful day out.
Take a short stroll into the bustling market town of Dereham with its broad selection of independent eateries and shops. There is a market in the town square every Tuesday and Friday, a farmer's market once a month and many seasonal events. Visit Bishop Bonners Cottage, one of Dereham's oldest surviving buildings or the Church of St Nicholas, a fabulous medieval church, with a shrine to the famous St Withburga.
Dereham is also home to the Mid-Norfolk Railway which offers steam train rides through a variety of quaint villages and the magnificent Norfolk countryside, finishing in Wymondham, one of Norfolk's prettiest towns. The railway also has many themed trips throughout the year such as the ale and wine tasting train, a jazz and blues train for music lovers, not to mention the scary Halloween train and magical Polar Express at Christmas. It is advised to book early for these special events.
Take a boat trip on the Broads or drive through the open countryside to the sublime North Norfolk Coastline. Enjoy the local catch in one of the many fish restaurants or take a picnic, prepared by the lovely hosts and simply laze around on the beach.
Visit Sandringham, Oxburgh Hall and many other stately homes and castles all within a short drive.
