When you think of a treehouse, many don't see them as structures that cater for everybody. That is all about to change...

Say hello to Liberty: brand new treehouse, part of the new Treedwellers collection found in Finstock, Oxfordshire, and one that has been built with accessibility in mind, and for the mobility of all.

Whilst technically not the first structure in the UK to call itself an 'accessible treehouse', Liberty is surely the coolest? One of only a handful that can claim to be accessible by those with disabilities or who are less mobile. With the same effort for modern, clean, and minimalist spaces as all other treehouses on the site, Treedwellers offers a stylish and bohemian chic that makes up the space-age structure's interior.

On the outside, Liberty is a brand new, eco-friendly treehouse built with environmentally-friendly materials, and decorated with specially-curated art pieces, and superior quality finishing touches which all combine to create a decadent holiday experience in a serene part of rural England.

Liberty, like the other treehouses on site, is a super-quirky, and ultra-modern treehouse, built for couples or small families and set back in a private position on a custom-built retreat in the Oxfordshire countryside. The outer shell is circular, and 'donut-shaped', which offers an extremely interesting twist on the traditional ideals of a treehouse. Almost a complete deconstruction, Liberty is a treehouse for the 21st Century.

The main structure is accessed by all from the rear of the unit, on an accessible walkway, which sits at ground level. The main living area of the treehouse is perched at the same level to allow it to be accessed by all, and the supporting frame of the treehouse is built down into a natural fosse that brings the essence of the treehouse to life.

Also at ground level, next to the treehouse, you will find an accessible parking space on a solid and suitable concourse. Due to the nature of accessibility, Liberty has been crafted to allow a car to remain beside the treehouse for ease, so at this treehouse only, your vehicle does not need to be returned to the main parking place.

With an eco-construction and custom circular-shaped exterior; a mixture of rusty, COR-TEN steel-coloured aluminum gives Liberty its distinctive, look.

Treedwellers is a place for diversity and a celebration of ‘forward to nature’ spaces that ensnare the senses but also seamlessly blend into the tranquil surroundings of the Oxfordshire backdrop without impacting on the wildlife or habitats. The wider area is developed with its natural surroundings in mind, building sustainable accommodation in a beautiful part of the world, whilst returning the former industrial land to nature.

Approximately 15-miles northwest of Oxford, Finstock is a small but lively community, with a popular village pub and a wonderful community-run shop.

NB. The images used here are CGI composites, and as such, some features of the treehouse exteriors and interiors may be subject to change. Though this will not impact the quality, the finished product may alter in style or be visually changed. We expect to receive finished images in March 2022.

To launch these new treehouses with availability from next year, we are offering 'early bird' pricing to secure your break for 2022. The site owners will pledge to refund any guest who books, should their treehouse be materially different upon final release.

There are large windows on both ends of the treehouse, as well as floor-to-ceiling glass doors in the main living space that allow for natural light to seep in, and your mind to wander out into the woodland.

Heating and lighting are in ample supply, allowing the treehouse to be frequented year-round, Power and warmth are provided by several sources; the wood-burning fireplace in the main living area is one of them, but the treehouse also benefits from underfloor heating and has an uninterrupted supply of electricity, which the site draws from 100% renewable sources.

It was very clear early on in the initial conception process that this Treedwellers site had to be a place of inclusivity, and that it could be accessible to everyone.

The site boasts 6 other amazing and unique treehouses, 5 of which are exclusive to Quality Unearthed and can be found here.

Oxfordshire is a beautiful, quintessentially English county, and it only takes mere minutes from Oxford’s city centre, either by foot or car, to know you’re in the middle of rural England, and deep in the countryside. There are many accessible things to do in and around Oxfordshire, and which will cater to any and all mobilities.

Guided walks and routes
There are many popular and accessible paths from the city centre across to Port Meadow, a flat green field that makes for a pleasant perambulation. The River Thames lines one side of the meadow – you can amble along the towpath beside it then slightly further on to reach The Perch, a conveniently-placed pub that’s ideal for a midway drink or two.

Oxford Botanic Garden & Arboretum

Celebrating over 400 years, this is the oldest botanic garden in the UK, founded in 1621. Originally, it was established as the Oxford Physic Garden and was used for growing medicinal plants in order to teach medical students. The Garden was the birthplace of botanical sciences at Oxford, but it became known as the Oxford Botanic Garden in the 1830s in order to reflect its role in experimental botany.

The Oxford Artisan Distillery

Oxford's first craft distillery and Britain's first certified organic grain-to-glass distillery. The distillery welcomes visitors in the heart of Oxford, for a behind-the-scenes experience to discover their approach to craft distilling and how they achieve this using sustainably farmed populations of heritage grain, as well as bespoke hand-built copper stills. You’ll see what goes into their spirits and truly understand what grain to glass craft distillery really is.

Charlbury

Nestling in the Evenlode Valley, and found by calm, meandering roads nearby to Finstock is Charlbury, a vibrant yet picturesque Oxfordshire town. It is the nearest hub to find great places to eat, a variety of shops and bars to Treedwellers.

Blenheim

A world-class visitor attraction with a rich variety of sporting and cultural events throughout the year. As mentioned, as it is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, history buffs will delight at the sheer majesty of the Woodstock palace, found just ten miles from Oxford itself.

A note on bikes

Cycling is one of the most popular ways for students and residents to get around Oxford town. As such, fences along sidewalks are often packed with bikes. However, great strides are made here, and signs placed throughout Oxford reminding people to park their bikes responsibly, so that wheelchair users can pass by unhindered.
