Sambucus is one of the larger, family-orientated treehouses found on the Finstock site of the Treedwellers collection. A spacious, quirky, and unique treehouse, built to sleep up to 4 people, it is found toward the top end of the luxury, boutique site and is set back in a private position on the custom-built Oxfordshire retreat.

A brand new treehouse built with environmentally-friendly materials and decorated with specially-curated art pieces, and superior quality finishing touches which all combine to create a decadent holiday experience in a serene part of rural England.

With its modern, S-shaped form and fluid, effortless contours, Sambucus are supremely quirky and original. An ultra-modern treehouse, built for couples or small families.

The composition of the building materials was of huge importance to the owners, who chose a high-quality aluminum finish, because of its recyclable properties, helping to meet their own self-governed sustainability criteria.

Nestled in the glorious Cotswolds, the area on the outskirts of Finstock, Oxfordshire is home to the boutique Treedwellers site. The site has seven separate and unique, boutique-style treehouses to suit a variance of moods, lending itself to different styles and tastes, and is located within a magical, peaceful woodland setting on acres of Oxfordshire's woodland.

Like all of the dwellings on the impressive site, Sambucus is built from an eco-conscious perspective. It is a non-traditional, visually striking treehouse on an equally impressive site at Treedwellers Finstock. The structure itself is raised to a platform, and a shell with a curving, wave-like canopy, finished in a brooding, dark veneer with rust-coloured ends. An exterior, front-facing deck offers outdoor space and a lookout spot to breathe in all that the acres of spaces of the woodlands beyond.

The interior is a unique blend of contemporary design that creates a thoroughly modern, minimalist feeling to what the owners hope will be a timeless and welcoming space. The use of natural and environmentally-friendly materials with recyclable and sustainable properties, high-end art pieces, California-inspired touches of hotel luxury all combine to create a bespoke, high-end experience in a unique abode to match.

A place for diversity and a celebration, Treedwellers cultivate and nurture the idea of ‘forward to nature’ spaces. In this instance, the collision of modern, contemporary accommodation with the natural environment is one that entraps the senses, seamlessly blending the tranquil surroundings of the Oxfordshire landscape without impacting on the wildlife or habitats.

Nearby amenities include the Finstock community-run shop and village public house. Nearby, the Diddly Squat Farm Shop, which was opened in 2020 by Jeremy Clarkson can be found. The amazing little farm shop consists of a small barn full of good, no-nonsense delicacies and essentials for your stay.

NB. The images used here are CGI composites, and as such, some features of the treehouse exteriors and interiors may be subject to change. Though this will not impact the quality, the finished product may alter in style or be visually changed. We expect to receive finished images in March 2022.

To launch these new treehouses with availability from next year, we are offering 'early bird' pricing to secure your break for 2022. The site owners will pledge to refund any guest who books, should their treehouse be materially different upon final release.

Things to do in and around Oxfordshire

With something for everyone, Oxfordshire has an abundance of attractions and places to visit. Some of the most ancient and beautiful towns in England are found within its borders. Famed for its world-renowned University and the City of Spires that house the colleges, you're sure to find so many things to do in the local area.

Visit the real-life village of Downton

The Downton Abbey TV series was and remains a popular Transatlantic success. But did you know that the village of Downton itself was in fact the charming village of Bampton in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds? Well, now you do and you can visit too. There's even a tour.

The Oxford Artisan Distillery

Oxford's first craft distillery and Britain's first certified organic grain-to-glass distillery. The distillery welcomes visitors in the heart of Oxford, for a behind-the-scenes experience to discover their approach to craft distilling and how they achieve this using sustainably farmed populations of heritage grain, as well as bespoke hand-built copper stills. You’ll see what goes into their spirits and truly understand what grain to glass craft distillery really is.

Walking Tours

Due to the exceptional history and architecture that Oxford offers, one of the most popular things you can choose to do is walk around the area on a guided tour. You can see the filming locations used in the aforementioned Harry Potter films, as well as small-screen appearances from shows like Inspector Morse, and the university’s most famous buildings: the Radcliffe Camera, Bridge of Sighs, Sheldonian Theatre and the Bodleian Library. There are several tours to choose from, and you can see Oxford on your own terms.

Oxford's waterways

No visit to Oxford is ever truly complete without visiting the city’s waterways – the mighty River Thames which flows through to London, the River Cherwell, and the historic Oxford Canal, which is now over 200-years old. These ancient waterways allow you to explore the hidden side of the city that day-to-day tourists do not take. You can literally see the city from a different perspective.

A world-class visitor attraction with a rich variety of sporting and cultural events throughout the year. As mentioned, as it is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, history buffs will delight at the sheer majesty of the Woodstock palace, found just ten miles from Oxford itself.
