Deep in the undulating hills of rural Shropshire, you'll find one of the cutest, quirkiest little one bedroom retreats we've ever come across. The Barn Studio is literally located within the sprawling wooden stable barn set amidst acres of rolling parkland and trees. This little cottage can be found within an enclosed side of the stables as a semi-detached part of the building, meaning that your neighbours (pardon the pun), popping their heads over the stable doors are a miniature fairy pony and some magical retired circus horses, Henry the little black lamb and a very flamboyant rescue hen named The Duchess. This little box of delights is as comfortable as it is unusual, with rich, many-hued cushions and throws scattered over comfortable seating areas, and a cosy upstairs double bedroom tucked behind climbing rose framed windows, overlooking the flower garden and private lake beyond. With its own kitchenette, a lovely bathroom with bath, and full electrics and hot water throughout, this modern rental is a crossover between country cottage and a circus-chic wonderland for animal lovers and those with a penchant for the Shropshire air. Nink will even let you bring your horse with you - room and board are available for your equine friend at this quirky and colourful abode.
The Barn Studio is situated in the beautiful rural surroundings of Ellesmere, some 6 miles from the cottage. Ellesmere is known for its ancient motte and bailey castle overlooking the glacial area of the Meres, where you can watch grey herons nesting yearly. 12 miles away is the medieval market town of Shrewsbury, hometown of evolutionary theorist Charles Darwin. Shrewsbury has striking Tudor and Georgian buildings visible throughout the town centre, as well as great shops in its four large shopping centres, and events such as the longest running flower show in the world, the Cartoon Festival, and the Shrewsbury Folk Festival which runs over the August bank holiday.
The Barn Studio can be accessed through a patio door at the front of the building, leading into the lounge area, or through a small door inside the stables, leading into the kitchen. The colourful kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, an electric, 4-ring hob, an under-counter fridge-freezer, a kettle, a toaster and all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. A small kitchen table and chairs sits near the beautiful wood-burning stove, leading to the open plan lounge area with a sofa, chairs and a small TV. From the lounge, you can access a small patio area with an outdoor table and chairs which leads to a large lawned flower garden which is shared between the cottage and Nink's own house nearby.
A small staircase at the side of the kitchen leads upstairs to a small bathroom with flushing toilet, hot water basin and a full-sized bath with hot water shower overhead. A double bed dominates the bedroom, with built in shelving and hanging space. There's a beautiful aspect over the garden and grounds from here.
Additionally, you can bring your own horse with you to this popular riding spot. Nink offers a stall for your horse, and also a small arena for riding indoors. Guests to The Barn Studio have access to 60 acres of mature parkland - shared by various animals - and the private lake within the grounds.
