Barley Hill Pod is gorgeously located in the serene Somerset countryside and is ideally suited for a romantic couples' getaway. Gloriously positioned in its own private field the site is surrounded by magnificent oak trees dotted along the hedgerows with fairy-tale views into the barley fields adjacent. The crisp golden fields invoke similarities to the famous Shawshank Redemption hay-field with its burgeoning oaks and glistening golden barley. A charming stream trickles past the pod, while a pond filled with beautiful Call Ducks is enclosed opposite.
The site is a haven for a variety of wild birds, with various bird tables and feeders positioned around the site guests can expect to see anything from Nuthatches and Woodpeckers to elusive Kingfishers. The pod is incredibly private with no signs of civilisation in sight except for the occasional tractor trundling past on the quiet country roads.
The pod itself is deceptively spacious and equipped with everything you need for a lovely romantic getaway. With a super comfy corner sofa to lounge around in the evenings the pod has a full range of cooking facilities including oven, hob, fridge and even a flat screen tv. The super snug pod is well-insulated and kept lovely and warm with its underfloor heating plus additional electrical heaters if required and benefits from a lovely en suite bathroom with hot running water.
Barley Hill is only 30 minutes' drive to Dorset's' spectacular Jurassic Coast to the south, while the beautiful Somerset Coast to the north is also easily accessible from the site. In addition, the magnificent Blackdown Hills are a little more than 10 minutes away with their distinguished sharp valleys and array of native wildlife. A visit to this Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a must do.
Situation and Location.
The Pod is located in a quiet and peaceful section of Somerset farmland. The nearest pub is around 1.3 miles away, serving good food and local ale.
The historic town of Chard is around 10 minutes drive with boasts a museum as well as a number of interesting shops and places to eat.
Head south for the nearest beach on Dorset's famous Jurassic Coast, or north towards the Somerset Coast for another collection of beaches.
The fabulous Blackdown Hills are located around 10 minutes from the site, which offers a variety of country walks and a multitude of wildlife to look out for.
Interiors and Facilities
The well-equipped pod is furnished with a comfy double, a deluxe corner sofa and a solid oak bar with stools.
The cosy ensuite bathroom contains a hot shower, basin and flushing toilet, plus a warming towel rail.
The kitchen has a full range of the facilities including an oven, hobs, microwave, toaster, kettle, plus all the cooking utensils and crockery you will need.
Games are also available to guests for entertainment.
The pod is lit with electrical lights and equipped with plug sockets to charge your essentials, plus a flat screen TV with a variety of channels. A DVD player with DVDs is also provided.
You will also find complimentary teas and coffees, plus a few essentials to welcome you on your stay.
Here you will find a terraced wood deck to sit and enjoy the tranquil surrounds. A table and chairs together with a picnic bench provide places to sit and watch the passing wildlife, plus a place to enjoy a lovely meal outside. A barbecue is provided, so be sure to bring some charcoal and food to cook on the grill.
A wooden fence encircles the pod to create a tranquil garden space, which creates a private space away from the sheep who occasionally inhabit the field.
Opposite an enclosed duck pond is home to a number of exquisite Call Ducks; an intriguely small and beautiful variety of duck. The pond is also frequently visited by various other water dwelling birds including Mallards and Herons.
At the other end of the field you will see a small stable, which is used as a storage unit for the farm.
