A tepee, teepee, or tipi, all spellings widely used, is a thing a great beauty. Sleeping under the canvas (in a proper, full-sized bed of course!), you cannot help but be in awe of these incredible structures that date back possible 4000 years or more!Â
For children who love playing in wigwams at home, a tepee glamping holiday in a bone-fide, full-sized wigwam will the thing of dreams.Â
A back to nature teepee glamping holiday will be fun for the whole family. Enjoy quality family time around the log fire. Bring the board games or play some good old fashioned word games together.
Barbecues outside add that extra wild camping feel. Pull up some stools and roast marshmallows under the night sky.. star gazing optional!
Teepees were used by the indigenous people of North America as well as the Sami people of northern Europe who lived in similar structures, known as lavvu. These are lower in height than the tall tipi structures we imagine, with a yurt like crown.Â
Tepees are ingenious structures. They remind us how simple shelter can be. Using only a few raw materials, the central structure of a tepee is made from a collection of wooden poles tied at the top. Animal skins used to be draped over these for heat and protection from the elements, replaced by canvas these days.
Our pre-pitched glamping tipis in the UK and France are fully set up for you. Beds made and fire prepped, ready for you to experience an authentic stay in these unique structures.
