Sunflowers, Gower

Painted in a sunny, carefree golden yellow colour, Sunflowers is an ethically inviting space which sleeps up to 8 people.  Located a stone's throw from Gower's sandy shores, this upcycled beach house is a fantastic base for surfing trips, hen dos by the sea, walking excursions with the family, and much more. The exterior of this funky building is all interesting, welcoming angles.  The materials of the house determine the shape - the roof was once a refrigerated lorry panel, and now it keeps the house cool in summer and toasty warm in winter.  There are crazy shaped beams throughout, just as nature made them, and all manner of recycled features inside.  The double height living area has a large log burner for heating, and the kitchen nook is just off this space.  Gorgeous views of the terraced wild gardens can be seen from here.  The terraces are perfect spots for star gazing, barbecues and just chilling out to the sound of the birds.  On still nights you can hear the waves crashing onto the shoreline at nearby Three Cliffs Bay.  There are 2 private bedrooms, and additional funky mezzanine sleeping areas which are accessed via step ladders, making this a great place for friends to share.

Owner Dave has whittled every branch and hammered every last nail himself, and is rightly proud of the upcycled vibe he has created.  He has recently designed and installed a state-of-the-art log burner pressurised water heating system, further enhancing the eco-credentials of this unique abode in a magical place.

Interiors and Facilities

This beautiful abode is flowing in terms of space, with the kitchen, with its oven, microwave and kettle, flowing into a large, open plan lounge area, with seating and two lovely log burners, from where you can see the two mezzanine sleeping places.
Due to the height of the mezzanines, these areas are not suitable for children under 16 years of age.  Two private double bedroom leads off from these mezzanine areas, as does a full bathroom, with bath, hot water shower, wash basin and flushing toilet.
The outdoor space provides the perfect place for meals, socialising and taking in the Gower sea air, which the locals tell us is rather special, and will make you sleep better than you have before!

Situation and Location

The artistic community moved into this heavenly spot in the 1960's, tucked into the shelter of a leafy valley far away from the stress of urban living, taking over abodes hastily thrown up during the war and replacing them with individually crafted, loved-up homes which are still evolving today. The fantastic beach of Three Cliffs Bay is just a 5-minute walk over the dunes.  Recently voted Britains best picnic spot, the scenery here is truly stunning.  This is a peaceful, little-known area of Gower - take time to chat to the locals, who are a friendly and fascinating bunch.
Public transport links are within 400 metres. There is a pub, shop, bar and restaurant 15 minutes' walk from the house.
Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Gower is truly unspoiled by new development, and its many beaches lay untouched by modern standards.  That is not to say that the area is deserted.  You will find many good pubs serving top quality, Welsh, locally sourced food.  There are good farmers markets held in Mumbles and Uplands nearby.  Walk the Gower Way to see the stunning beauty of this little-known area of Wales, a pathway that follows ancient byways right around the Gower Coast.  Walk the "Worm", an iconic peninsula only accessible at low tide which juts out at the very tip of the Gower, sheltering Rhossili Bay (all 3 miles of it) - it is one of the top 5 beaches in the world.  A visit to the village of Mumbles is a must, 7 miles away, where there is a great choice of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.  You can play the slots at the Pier and eat ice cream while walking along the Promenade.  Mumbles is a true seaside village, complete with lighthouse!
