Mid Wales and the border with England can often be overlooked, but this ancient stretch of the country is dotted full of castles, fortified towns, and so many man-made reservoirs that the region has been referred to as Wales' Lake District.
The largest natural lake in this region is at Llangorse, where the only known Welsh "crannog" has been recreated. Crannogs were ancient lake dwellings built in Ireland and Scotland - this one is known to have been built around 916 AD by the King of the time, King Elisedd. Nowadays, the lake is used for fishing, sailing, zoning and has a well-established visitors centre.
Mid Wales is a hiker's paradise - traverse the Cambrian Mountains, often called the Green Desert of Wales by foot, on the many biking trails or on horseback. The Heart of Wales Riding School is based in Llandrindod Wells. Or why not visit the very popular Red Kite Feeding Station at Rhayader to catch a close up of Wales' National bird of prey in all their glory?
If you're feeling brave, why not incorporate a climb up Wales' second highest peak into your glamping holiday? Follow the route of Beacon's Path onwards towards the 2,907 ft summit for 360-degree views of this glorious country, then head back to your cosy glamping structure for a well-deserved rest!
