*** New for 2022 - wood-fired hot tub (inclusive in price) - pictures coming soon ***
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure-dome decree: In the hills of Radnor, a modern-day Xanadu has been created not by Kubla Khan but by Andy and Katherine and a stately pleasure-dome now sits on the hillside at the Redwood Retreat.
Immerse yourself in the peace and quiet that the Radnorshire hills offer in spades. Just a mile from Rhayader the retreat offers romantic stays in a luxuriously appointed Geodome. Guests are also free to use the 'chillout' dome, further down the hillside which is shared with Norwegian Wood.
Exclusively for adults, this seclusion gives the break you always promised yourself. The retreat is based on Andy and Katherine’s smallholding and is very exclusive with only two glamping sites available so you are not sharing your holiday with your neighbours.
Hafod is a short walk (75 mtrs) across the pasture from your parking space by the farmhouse. Built-in a small old quarry the elevated position gives an amazing view across the valley. A feature of the dome is the massive clear viewing window with nearly 180-degree clear vision. The windows pick up the morning sun as well as giving a view as the sun slips away into the west behind the hills.
One mile from Rhayader town centre with a choice of pubs, cafe's supermarkets and shops. A special treat is to have a Red Kite hovering just a few feet above your head. Expect to see Nuthatches, Woodpeckers, Blue and Great Tits, Robins and Redstarts, Goldfinches and Thrushes to name a few. Every year families of Swallows and House Martins seek housing around Andy & Katherine's house nearby. Occasionally a fox can be seen as it sneaks across the landscape. A Hare is a frequent guest in the paddocks below the dome too. At dusk, bats can appear as they seek a snack on insects.
Hafod at Redwood Retreat can also be rented together with Norwegian Wood on the same site - perfect for two couples.

Just outside the dome is a well-appointed bathroom complete with a shower, washbasin, toilet and urinal. Large towel, robes and slippers are provided for your indulgence. On the other side of the dome is a second, outdoor shower for people who enjoy the feel of sun and wind on their skin. A good supply of hot water is supplied by either solar or gas but rest assured there is plenty of it. Adjacent to the outdoor shower is a small pond, a picnic table and a charcoal-fired barbeque is also free to use. In season there is a small herb garden at the pond, a lovely addition to your cooking.
Downhill from the Hafod is another smaller (garden) dome which is a chill-out zone for all guests to enjoy. In the garden dome is some bamboo seating, a table and a single gas burner and kettle. And just outside is a large fire pit with rustic bench seating and fire logs supplied.
This area is recently planted with rhododendron and other shrubs as well as annual bedding plants and herbs. Just sit here quietly and wait for the fauna to come to visit you. Or get active and toast your marshmallows and do some grilling on the steelers wheel fire pit.

Dark Skies Come and discover the Dark Skies of the Cambrian Mountains.
The Elan Valley, which is just a mile or so from Redwood Retreat is an International Dark Sky Park. In 2015 the Elan Valley Estate achieved this status and became the first privately owned but publicly accessible park in the world to do so. On the estate, they were granted a silver tier status by the International Dark-Sky Association based in Arizona, USA. This status means that the entire 45,000 acres of the Elan Valley are protected against light pollution for the benefit of those who live and work here, in addition to the many visitors each year. The status also provides sanctuary for the abundance of wildlife and nature which can be found by day and night on the estate.
