Cosy Under Canvas is an award-winning glamping site, just 5 miles from Hay on Wye, which offers a back to basics style getaway that fuses beautiful scenery, stunning geodesic domes with a reinvigorating dose of wild escapism.

Sitting on edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, one of the UK's only designated dark sky areas, this ancient rolling landscape is a hidden gem away from the hordes of the coast. Here is a place defined by its uninterrupted tranquility, spellbinding beauty and flourishing wildlife - the perfect setting for a glamping break beneath the stars.

This off-grid glamping site offers a complete detox from a busy life, with stylish domes hidden amongst the blossoming woodland. The site incorporates a range of eco-friendly facilities including wood-fired showers, solar lighting, and compost loos. However, this doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your creature comforts, with snuggly soft beds, fluffy sheepskins, and your own wood-burning hot tubs to create a real luxury glamping experience.

Also known as waterfall country, the beacons offer a number of wild swimming options (if you're brave enough!), plus a plethora of walks and old school adventures. Scale Pen y Fan, the highest peak, for some seriously breathtaking views, or, if you're looking for a more relaxed jaunt, the park stretches for miles around with little in terms of permanent residents (other than the birds and the bees!).

is a shared woodland kitchen with gas hobs and a wood-fired Rayburn.

There is a standard flushing loo & shower up in the buildings near the house too.

Private Parking available on site. A wheelbarrow is provided to transporting your luggage

Shared Kitchens

There are 2 kitchens shared between the 7 domes on site. Each is equipped with traditional enamel crockery, pots, pans, cutlery and cooking utensils, a cool box and ice packs and a storage box for dried food. A freezer is available for guests to replace ice packs.

There are gas stoves in both kitchens and a Rayburn in the woodland kitchen. The Rayburn isn't suitable for pizzas or oven-baked ready meals, however, It's perfect for slow cooking a pot of stew. Just let the owners know so the Rayburn can be lit ready.

No need to bring tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt or pepper, it's all here and a pot of fresh herbs is also planted up next to each kitchen, so help yourselves to parsley, mint, thyme or sage. Milk, eggs and other local produce is available from a small honesty shop.

Fresh spring water comes from the taps in the kitchen for washing up and cooking. Filtered water is provided for drinking.

There are private toilets for each dome and they are composting tree bogs. They are planted with willow around the edge and this feeds from the nutrients in the urine leaving the other waste matter to break down into compost.

The off grid showers are wood fueled with a lovely canopy view of the trees above. They are steaming hot with plenty of room inside for changing. There are also washrooms with more powerful showers heated by a biomass boiler, a short walk away.

There is no electricity in the woods. Guests are provided with two bright LED rechargeable lanterns and there are charging points in the washroom for these. We recommend that guests bring their own lanterns and torches too. Head torches are always useful for evening cooking or night time trips to the loo!

There are facilities for hair drying and straightening, and for charging phones, laptops etc. in the washroom too.

Mobile signal and WiFi

There is little or no mobile phone signal in or around the site. We hope you will embrace the sounds of nature!

WiFi is available from the house so please ask if you would like to briefly connect.

Indoor and outdoor space

Cosy Corner

Check out this cosy little space for big ideas with plenty of room to sit, eat or get creative! Help yourselves to the crafty bits and bobs, borrow the board games or burrow into a good book - there's information about the local area, books by local authors and maps should you need them.

Cosy Lounge

The Cosy Lounge is a stylish space available to all guests with comfy chairs and low tables for chilling out and relaxing. There are tables and benches for eating, a wood stove and a small veranda overlooking the communal fire pit outside. The lounge is perfect for quiet moments with a good book, socialising with other guests or sheltering in the warmth from the elements.

The site sits just 5 miles from Hay on Wye. Hay is a small Welsh market town with a difference... It's a town of books - at last count, there were 24 book shops to choose from!

It's home to the largest literacy festival in the UK when authors, poets, comedians and more, come together to inspire and entertain the crowds. This festival is held at the end of May. There are various events and creative workshops to attend.

Hay on Wye is host to an array of vintage shops plus an abundance of cafes, restaurants, pubs and even a small arts centre and music venue.

The glamping site sits in the Brecon Beacons National Park, one of only five dark sky reserves in the world, where the sky is dark and the stars shine bright. There are a wide variety of walks, bridleways and cycle routes within the park all easily accessible from here, with guided routes available for the less confident.

Climb a mountain, walk under a waterfall, stroll through a forest, visit a World Heritage site or a Roman Hillfort, there is plenty to see and do.  Visit www.breconbeacons.org/ for walks, activities, places to eat and more.
